Revelator

by Bradford Loomis

/

about

This song was written to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Everett Washington Massacre. This song is speculatively sung from the perspective of Sheriff Don McRae, one of the key figures in the violent escalation of events that led to the massacre as well as the massacre itself.

lyrics

Revelator

They say a man is never one thing, they say his hands are never quite clean
I say you don't know just what, these kind are capable of

They called me a company man, they called me the iron hand
What brings a man under sway?
They said I was bought and sold, they said I did as I was told
Why would a man betray? I would ask the same

Those so called men, you say, were blood and bones, they had families and they had homes
Why'd they come here from so far just to creep around in the dark

They called me a company man, they called me the iron hand
What brings a man under sway?
They said I was bought and sold, they said I did as I was told
Why would a man betray? I would ask the same

They brought in agitators; well I'll be the revelator
I’ll do what needs to be done
This is the home of the brave, but I tell you I’m not afraid
This is the land of the free, if you look like me.
