You never know when inspiration is going to strike you. Sometimes, it hits you at a corporate conference for Realtors and entrepreneurs in the midst of a changing economy. I was hired to play some of my songs during transitional moments over a few days during an event Called Built How put on by the fine folks at PLACE. In between my sets, I sat and listened to the speakers taking notes. Speaker after speaker talked about perseverance, tenacity, and maintaining a dedication to one's purpose and values despite outside circumstances. The event slogan was Built For This and I knew immediately I needed to write this song.
This song of the same name resonates deeply with me as so many people that I know and care for have been struggling in some fashion or another, be it financially, emotionally, etc. Myself included. Community is so vital for dispelling the dark of doubt, despair, or depression that has a way of creeping in when times are challenging. May you find the determination, grit, and perseverance when you need it most.
lyrics
Life is hard, if you’re on your own and battle-scarred
There’s no prize if you somehow make it across that line
It’s a long winding road there’s no joy if you’re all alone
You don’t have to be, you’ve got a place right here with me
Everything changes, that’s a fact
Don’t waste time with what’s behind you, you can’t go back
When hard times roll we’re gonna walk the wire
The strongest steel is forged in the fire
When adversity comes, don’t be calling it quits
Put in the work, We were Built for This
We’ll put in the work, we were built for this
When we find, the road ahead is an uphill climb
As bad as things may get, the tides will turn they just haven’t yet
Yesterday is gone, no matter what you’ve been through, you’re not alone
Just you wait and see, I’ll be there for you, you’ll be there for me
Everything changes, that’s a fact
Don’t waste time with what’s behind you, you can’t go back
When hard times roll we’re gonna walk the wire
The strongest steel is forged in the fire
When adversity comes, don’t be calling it quits
Put in the work, We were Built for This
We’ll put in the work, we were built for this
We ain’t here that long, don’t wait till the end has come
For a moment like this, now is the time we were made for this
